More than 200 volunteers, including students, assembled at the beach on Saturday to participate in the initiative. The students were hard at work throughout the day, eagerly trying to help the environment. Those who were present at the beach appreciated the initiative and some even joined in.
The PUAN Karachi chapter members also planted 500 saplings in 15 schools of the city and encouraged the students to develop ‘green areas’ for the sake of the environment and to promote ecological balance.
“We are very happy to have successfully launched this drive and to have made people realise their social and civic responsibilities,” said the PUAN’s Karachi chapter president, Faisal Malik. “People visit the beach to enjoy and relax, but end up tarnishing the beauty of the site by throwing peels of consumed fruits, shopping bags and other discarded waste. We hope we will mend our ways as a society and be more responsible in the future.”
