ISLAMABAD:
A capital court has sought replies from the top officials of the interior ministry on a petition filed by a Balochistan nationalist party leader seeking removal of his name from the exit control list (ECL).
Islamabad High Court (IHC) judge Riaz Ahmed Khan on Friday issued notices to the secretary interior and the director-general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) seeking their replies till the next date of hearing that will be fixed by the registrar office later.
Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) chief Shahzain Bugti has sought the court’s intervention to remove his name from the ECL so that he could travel abroad.
Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel Babar Awan maintained that the interior ministry has placed JWP chief’s name on the ECL making it difficult for him to travel abroad.
Shahzain’s name was put on ECL after he was arrested on December 22, 2010 by the Frontier Corps personnel at the Buleli checkpoint near Quetta.
The petitioner’s counsel contended that his client is a political figure and the then government has crafted fabricated cases against him and later put his name on the ECL which was unfair.
He requested the court to direct the ministry to remove his client’s name from the ECL.
