'I am not guilty and I am very sure about it'
Suspended cricketer Salman Butt says he is positive about the outcome of the ICC probe as he leaves for UAE.
LAHORE:
Cricketers Salman Butt and Mohammad Aamir of the Pakistan team have left for Dubai, for the hearing of their appeal against the International Cricket Council (ICC) suspension.
"I am not guilty and I am very sure about it," Salman Butt said, talkig to the media at the Allama Iqbal International Airport. "I am very positive about the outcome of the ICC probe," he added.
Salman Butt's lawyer Khalid Ranjha believes there is no solid evidence against the suspended player and that allegations are based on media reports. He told the media that the decision of the case should not be preempted.
According to a cricinfo.com report, speaking to the media earlier, Butt said "I do not want to comment on The News of the World because everybody knows what kind of paper it is, everybody knows about its reputation across the world." He added that Majeed "must have made lots of claims ... clearly exaggerating things to show his authority,"
"I think he might have said a lot of things in that video because it was edited. So nobody knows what has gone wrong in that video." said Butt.
Speaking to the press, suspended fast-bowler Mohammad Aamir said "I am hopeful and ready to represent Pakistan again," and appealed to the entire Pakistan nation to pray for their verdict.
Both players left for UAE from Allama Iqbal International Airport. Their hearing will be held on October 30 and 31.
ICC suspended Butt and Aamir along with Mohammad Asif due to spot fixing allegations by the British media. Mohammad Asif has already withdrawn his appeal.
