LAHORE:

The Judicial Inquiry Commission formed to investigate the alleged plot to assassinate the Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif has completed its report.

Sources said the report will be submitted to the Supreme Court in two days. Statements of several high-ups in the Punjab government have also been recorded by the Commission.

However, Punjab Prosecutor General Rana Maqbool did not appear before the commission to record his statement.

Balochistan High Court Justice Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Essa is heading the three-member commission.

The federal government had earlier decided to constitute a judicial commission to investigate an alleged plot to assassinate Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif, the chief justice of the Lahore High Court.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Interior had confirmed to The Express Tribune that Punjab Governor Salman Taseer has been informed about the decision to constitute the commission to investigate the alleged plot.

The Punjab governor, while denying allegations levelled against him and the federal government regarding a plot to kill Khawaja Muhammad Sharif,  had said that he had written to the Chief Justice of Pakistan about the issue.
