PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday arrested three people accused of embezzling over Rs400 million from a housing scheme of the Provincial Housing Authority (PHA) in 2012. Former PHA director general Javed Ahmad, former land acquisition collector Naveed Qadir and Muhammad Asif were held for misappropriating the amount on the pretext of acquiring land for a PHA scheme at Moza Darwaza Nathiagali. According to a NAB press release, the PHA also initiated the scheme without obtaining a no-objection certificate from the Forest Department and the Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) and without preparing a feasibility report which is a prerequisite. Furthermore, Rs261 million was supposed to be the amount given to the owner of the land, however, the accused awarded Rs400 million to a man named Muhammad Asif, who was not the actual landowner, the statement read.
