Second doctor gunned down in Karachi in two days

The victim was in-charge of emergency at Darul-Sehat hospital and professor at the hospital's university.

KARACHI: A general physician was shot dead in an apparent act of sectarian violence near Darul-Sehat Hospital in Gulistan-e-Johar area of Karachi on Wednesday evening.

The duty officer at the Shahrah-e-Faisal police station said the victim, 50-year old Syed Haider Raza, was getting in his car (registration no ASV- 987), outside the hospital when unidentified armed men shot at him.

The suspects shot thrice before managing to flee from the crime scene.

He added that the victim was in-charge of the emergency department at the Darul-Sehat hospital and a professor at the university.

A spokesperson of Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen claimed that the victim belonged to Shia community and it is a second such incident in last two days. He said that just a day before a homeopathic doctor was gunned by unidentified motorcyclists near Yousuf Plaza in Federal B area.
