In solidarity: Malir, City courts to observe ‘black day’ today

The courts will remember slain lawyers that were killed six years ago.

KARACHI:
The lawyers at the City Courts and the Malir district courts announced that they will observe a 'black day' on Wednesday to remember their slain fellows, Altaf Abbasi and Shehryar Sheri, who were killed in two separate incidents six years ago.

Advocate Abbasi along with his four clients was burnt to death at his Tahir Plaza office near the City Courts when the building, which mostly housed lawyers' offices, was set ablaze. Advocate Sheri was shot dead on MA Jinnah Road the same day.


The Malir Bar Association's building was also set on fire during the riots on April 9, 2008. It was reported that some miscreants had come to the building and opened fire at the lawyers and others present in the building. The men had torched the office and the library and damaged a few cars.

The bar associations has announced that the legal fraternity will observe a 'black day' across the city to protest the killings.
