ISLAMABAD:

A Chinese national allegedly committed suicide in his room at a construction site near the Chinese Embassy on Monday morning, according to police and embassy officials.

The embassy is located inside the Diplomatic Enclave.

The man was a construction worker at the site of the new Chinese embassy building inside the enclave, an embassy official told The Express Tribune.

“Representatives of the Chinese construction company working on the site have contacted the local police and are cooperating with them,” said the official, who asked not to be named.

The official said the incident occurred in the new under-construction compound.

According to police, the man allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan in his room with a double wire. The incident was reported to police around 7:30am, authorities said.

The police identified the man as Hui Chin and said personal domestic issues might have led him to the point of suicide, adding that further investigations are under way.

His body was shifted to Polyclinic for post-mortem, where the medico-legal officer said the deceased had a “V-shaped ligature mark around his neck.”

“There were no other wounds or marks of torture around his body, so it was most likely a suicide,” the doctor said.

Police said the man worked as a painter on the construction site and was aged between 40 and 45, however, the Polyclinic doctor said he was 51. The doctor also said the time of death was between 5am and 6am on Monday.
