ISLAMABAD:

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Sunday claimed that it had retrieved 7.5 acres from encroachers in Bani Gala and Malpur during its anti-encroachment drive.

The civic agency also claimed to have demolished two buildings, six houses, 11 cement-block manufacturing factories, two nurseries, two shops, one hotel, private lawns and water tanks illegally construed on state land in the Bara Kahu area.

“The CDA is still carrying out demarcation of its land in the area and more land is expected to be retrieved in the coming days in the light of the demarcation report,” said CDA Enforcement Director Muhammad Iqbal.

The CDA also fenced a public park after removing encroachments.

The anti-encroachment drive was initiated after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman MNA Imran Khan complained about the issue during his meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif when the premier visited his house in Bani Gala on March 12.

PTI Information Director Shireen Mazari said that the premier had assured Khan of action against the encroachers.

Following the meeting, CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal was asked by the PM’s office to personally look into the issue. Later, Afzal also held a meeting with Khan at his residence.

“The CDA chairman visited the area himself on Sunday where and directed the officers to continue the anti-encroachment operation until every inch of the CDA land had been retrieved,” CDA Spokesperson Asim Khichi said.
