After more than three months of discussions and protests, a verbal agreement ensuring uninterrupted construction on the Dasu Hydropower Project has been reached, between management and the action committee representing affected villagers.
Both sides met on Saturday under the supervision of Kohistan Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Shah. In earlier meetings, both parties stuck to their guns on the 18-point charter of demands presented by the affected communities.
After long deliberations, Wapda representative Muhammad Farooq, who is also the project manager, informed the affected landowners that their demands of getting market rates for their land, construction of residential colonies and roads on both sides of the river and vocational centres for locals have been taken up with Wapda officials and the government.
