MUZAFFARABAD:

Despite a reduction in the prices of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), distributors across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) are refusing to sell it on the rates issued by the federal government.

Last week, the Ministry of Petroleum slashed the price of LPG by Rs15 per kilogram and asked dealers to ensure distribution of LPG at Rs 125 per kilogram in AJK.

But distributors have not followed the new rates.

Customers accused the distributors of bribing the local administration to turn a blind eye. “Everyone is sucking the public dry and the government is not ready to take action,” said a customer, Khawaja Raza.

LPG dealer Muhammad Amjad said besides the tax, a huge amount is spent on transportation of the cylinders from Islamabad to Muzaffarabad. Therefore, they cannot provide gas at the government rates.

He said if the federal government wants to provide relief to the people, it should provide it on subsidised rates to the distributors.
