Wheat support price under review today
Economic Coordination Committee to review summaries for increase in support price for wheat.
ISLAMABAD:
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) will review the summaries for an increase in the support price for wheat and a rise in the price of sugar sold at utility stores in a meeting being held today (Friday), presided over by Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh.
Recommendations for the support price for wheat will be finalised by a sub-committee of the ECC that was set up under the chairmanship of the Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Syed Naveed Qamar. The sub-committee is reviewing two recommendations, for an increase of Rs50 and Rs80 per 40kgs of wheat, respectively. The final recommendations of the sub-committee will be submitted at the ECC meeting.
Meanwhile, the ECC will also review recommendations to raise the price of sugar sold at utility stores by Rs15 to a retail price of Rs70 per kg, thereby eliminating the differential between open market and utility stores’ price. Recommendations for the compilation of a report on profiteering in the sugar industry will also be finalised.
