DI KHAN:

Seven mortar shells fired from across the Durand Line early Saturday morning landed inside Pakistan’s tribal territory without causing any loss of life.

The shelling coincided with the Afghan elections. “The shells exploded in Zoya-ba, a village on the Pak-Afghan border in Angor Adda tehsil of South Waziristan Agency, but no human casualty was reported,” an official of the political administration of South Waziristan told The Express Tribune.

The mountainous village of Zoya-ba is home to the Ahmadzai tribe who live on both sides of the Durand Line. Since the war on terror started, life remains disturbed in this far flung village. Earlier, the tribal elders of Angor Adda in a jirga held with government officials demanded safety from the cross-border shelling, but the shelling continues.

The tribesmen had demanded the representatives of Islamabad to pursue their counterparts in Kabul to stop this practice, but both the governments seem to be powerless in this region.

The scenic Angor Adda, is the resting place of Musa Derviesh the forefather of Ahmadzai and Uthmanzai tribes. The tomb of the revered personality was also once targeted in a bomb blast. Political Agent Akbar S Ahmad had the tomb of Darviesh rebuilt.
