“The provincial government has earmarked Rs400 million for the construction of a girls’ hostel at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad,” UAF Vice Chancellor Iqrar Ahmad Khan said on Friday.
Addressing students at a sports event organised by the Agrarian Society, he said the new hostel would house 1,000 students.
He said the project had been approved at the Annual Development Programme meeting.
“The funds will be released in the coming financial year... the university has over 16,000 students... fifty per cent of them are living at university’s hostels,” he said.
Khan said the university also had a plan to convert eight houses into girls’ hostels.
The UAF vice chancellor praised the provincial government for provision of 50 foreign scholarships to university students in the first phase of the programme.
“The government’s initiative will help strengthen the agriculture sector,” he added.
He said floodlights would be installed at the university cricket ground to facilitate the students.
The Agrarian Society Patron Amjad Aulak was also present on the occasion.
The students of Soil and Environmental Sciences won the tug-of-war and rangoli competition.
The UAF Afghan students Team won the cricket tournament on the occasion.
