Salman, Amir to leave for hearing
Provisionally suspended duo of Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir leave for Dubai to appear in hearing before ICC.
KARACHI:
Pakistan’s provisionally suspended duo of Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir will leave for Dubai today to appear in a hearing before the International Cricket Council (ICC). The two players were suspended by the ICC due to allegations by British tabloid News of the World that claimed that the two - along with Mohammad Asif - were involved in spot-fixing during the Test against England at Lord’s.
While Mohammad Asif withdrew his appeal against the suspension, both Salman and Amir will appear in the two-day hearing that starts tomorrow with hopes of getting clearance for international cricket.
Michael Beloff, the head of the ICC’s Code of Conduct Commission will hear the case of the two players. Amir has hired lawyer Shahid Karim while Salman will leave with Khalid Ranja and Aftab Gul to fight his case. “I am confident being cleared as I’ve not done anything wrong,” said Salman. “I am hoping to return to action soon for my country.”
However, his lawyer refrained from making any claims but stressed that he had prepared the case well. “We cannot make any claim at this point in time as it all depends on the tribunal. We have prepared our case and will fight for clearance of our client,” Gul told The Express Tribune.
“We will not leave any stone unturned and for this purpose we have distributed topics for debate during the hearing to support our client,” said Gul who will accompany Salman’s other lawyer Ranja during the hearing.
