Engineers’ training: USAID starts capacity building programme

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched a capacity building programme for engineers in power plant management.
Sixty engineers from Muzaffargarh, Guddu and Jamshoro thermal power plants will undergo the training under the USAID’s Energy Policy Programme.
“The goal of the training is to establish best operational practices and modern management techniques at the power generation companies (GENCOs), which will raise the overall operation standards and efficiency,” said Energy Policy Programme’s Deputy Chief of Party Talha Javed. The training programme will supplement the USAID’s efforts to mitigate energy shortfall in Pakistan.
The ongoing USAID-funded rehabilitation at thermal power plants has successfully restored 770 megawatts to the generation capacity, sufficient electricity to meet the needs of at least 7.1 million people.
Through the capacity building, the engineers will be able to develop best practices according to international standards.
