People should trust the police, says home minister

Community policing helps improve the image of the police department in the society, says Zulfiqar Mirza.

KARACHI:
Community policing helps improve the image of the police department in the society, said Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza while reviewing a report on setting up model police stations in Karachi.

The report — which was prepared by home affairs consultant Sharfuddin Memon — disclosed details on Memon’s meeting with the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Karachi, regarding an initiative for the improvement of infrastructure at three police stations.

The report revealed that the home department has undertaken the task to set up a model police station in every district of the province.

The  concept of community policing will be introduced in the jurisdiction of Capital City Police Office, Karachi, Ferozabad police station, Liaquatabad police station and women’s police station.

Efforts should be made, not only to restore people’s confidence in the police, but also to change the so-called “thana culture”, said Mirza.
