Water treatment: LCCI, Punjab to work on setting up plants
Secretary says meeting environmental standards a must.

The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and Punjab Environment Department have decided to work together in an effort to finalise recommendations for establishing water treatment plants in industrial areas of the province.
They took the decision in a meeting held at the LCCI on Thursday. Provincial Environment Secretary Anwar Khursheed was present in the meeting, which was attended by a large number of industrialists.
Khursheed said environmental issues were of prime importance and the industrialists, particularly the export-focused industry, should tackle them on priority. He assured them of Punjab government’s all-out assistance in this regard.
He stressed that meeting environmental standards was a prerequisite to do business with the developed world, adding the Environment Department was working on educating the business community about these standards.

Speaking on the occasion, LCCI Vice President Kashif Anwar pointed out that the industry could not afford water treatment plants that cost dearly. He asked the government to come forward and install such plants in all industrial areas.
He said the LCCI was taking all possible measures to update its members about the environmental standards in vogue the world over.
