Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani has summoned a meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) to discuss the appointment of two Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges.
Sources familiar with the matter said that IHC Chief Justice (CJ) Anwar Kasi, suggested four names for the appointment of two additional judges.
“Two nominees belong to the province of Balochistan whereas two lawyers namely Anees Jilani and Mian Abdul Rauf are from Islamabad Bar Association,” they added.
Interestingly, this is the third time IHC CJ has proposed names for the appointment of judges. Earlier, the JCP returned the proposed list to the high court for reconsideration, including Anees Jilani’s name, which has appeared nearly every time the names have been sent to the panel.
The sources said that three-member panel of JCP’s sub-committee, headed by IHC’s Justice Riaz Ahmad Khan, comprising Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Salman Aslam Butt as well as Pakistan Bar Council representative Yasin Azad would hold meeting on April 9 to shortlist two names from the list of four nominees.
