On the run: Cancellation of passports sought

Court adjourns hearing till April 7, seeks reply from Passport DG.

LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued a notice to the Passport Office director general on a plea by a Russian-Japanese woman seeking the cancellation of her daughter’s and former husband’s Pakistani passports. Inna Polikarpova said she had married Ahmad Naseem Humayun of Gujranwala six years ago in Japan. They had a daughter named Umaira, she said. Polikarpova said her husband returned to Pakistan with their daughter last year without her knowledge. She said the police had been unable to trace her former husband or recover her daughter. She said if Humayun’s and her daughter’s passports were cancelled, he would not be able to escape. She asked the court to order the passport authorities to cancel their passports. The court adjourned hearing till April 7 and sought a reply from the Passport DG.
