National debate: Resolutions against CII criticised

Maulana Fazlur Rehman says it is saddening to see provincial government opposing madrassahs.

KARACHI:
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) central leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has regretted a resolution passed by the Sindh Assembly against the recommendations of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII). Speaking on the telephone with JUI-F information-secretary Muhammad Aslam Ghori on Wednesday, he said that the CII enjoys an important role in the 1973 Constitution as a constitutional body. It was regretful that some parliamentarians criticised it, which, he claimed, was itself unconstitutional. He said that the CII consisted of religious scholars from all schools of thought. Apart from this, technocrats are a part of it. Rehman said it is saddening to see the provincial government opposing the madrassahs.
