PESHAWAR:


A man was shot dead in an encounter with the Mattani police during an operation on the outskirts of Peshawar on Tuesday.


At around 6am the police started a search operation in several villages, including Mattani, Adezai, Zakhel and Yousaf Khel. Around nine people were arrested on suspicion and are being interrogated.


An alleged kidnapper and gangster identified as Rambel Khan, resident of Zakhel village, was killed when the police raided his house and he opened fire at them.


IGP orders transfers

On Tuesday, IGP Nasir Khan Durrani visited Mathra police station and its outposts. He met the on-duty policemen at the outposts and ordered a transfer for the DSP, SHO and muharar of the police station on the charges of arresting and keeping three locals in illegal custody.

The IGP also took time out to meet residents and ask them how they felt about the policemen and their attitude towards the public. Capital City Police Officer Ijaz Khan accompanied Durrani during the visit.
