KARACHI:
The federal and Sindh governments have decided to appoint Mir Zubair Mehmood as Inspector General of Police Sindh, Express News reported on Monday.
The Supreme Court had ordered the authorities to fill the vacant post immediately after IG Sindh Shahid Nadeem Baloch retired more than a month ago on February 20.
Mehmood has earlier served as Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) for Quetta. The notification for his appointment will be issued today.
The provincial government had locked horns with the federal government over who to appoint as the new IG of the province. According to the 18th Amendment, the federal government cannot appoint any officer for the post of IG without consulting the provincial government.
The Sindh government had suggested former Karachi police chief Iqbal Mehmood and former Sindh police chief Fayyaz Leghari for the post but the federal government rejected the suggestions. The Centre and Sindh government have now agreed on the name of Mir Zubair Mehmood.
