Sons of Punjab Assembly secretary arrested for allegedly assaulting traffic warden

The notification to remove Punjab Assembly's secretary Rai Mumtaz from his post was issued on Friday after Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of Mumtaz's sons assaulting a traffic warden in Lahore, Express News reported.

The initial investigation report on the incident was presented to Shahbaz and according to the report, the incident took place in the presence of the secretary himself. The basis of the report was footage from television channels and statements from eye witnesses.

The incident had taken place on the evening of March 27 when the traffic warden tried to stop the sons for violating one-way traffic. The sons, identified as Rai Afzal and Rai Najaf were arrested while their other four accomplices are on the run. The police are conducting raids in order to search for the other four suspects.

The Punjab chief minister took notice of the assault and ordered that the secretary be removed from his post. Mumtaz was reportedly present in the area at the time of the alleged assault.

The secretary met speaker of Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal and informed him about the details regarding the incident.

Umar Akmal traffic warden assault
Cricketer Umar Akmal was arrested on February 1 for allegedly violating traffic rules, interfering in government work and “scuffling” with a traffic official near Firdous Town in Lahore.

An FIR was registered against him under Sections 279 (rash driving), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 353 (assault to deter public servant).

Akmal is now off the hook after the traffic warden, who had filed a case against him, accepted to drop charges against him. The traffic warden was convinced to withdraw the case when Akmal’s father tendered an unconditional written apology on March 6 on behalf of his son.
