Hazardous explosion: One killed in CNG cylinder blast in Karachi

KARACHI: At least one person has died and five others were killed when a compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinder blew up in Karachi late on Tuesday evening, Express News reported.

According to details, a CNG cylinder installed in a bus exploded when it was being filled at a fuel station in SITE area of Karachi.

According to Express News correspondent Nadeem Ahmed, the explosion occurred because of cylinder being used was sub-standard.

Injured have been taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Superintendent Police SITE Fida Hussain told The Express Tribune that a bus was filling CNG at Total CNG Station located outside the SP SITE office when the cylinder fitted inside the bus exploded.

Last year in May, Seventeen children and a teacher were killed when their school bus caught fire due to CNG cylinder explosion. Prior to this, in December 2011, 11 people, including six children, were burnt to death in Hyderabad in a similar incident.
