Newer tools: QAU initiates capacity building of researchers

ISLAMABAD:
Secretary Ministry of Science and Technology Kamran Ali Qureshi asked the researchers to keep abreast with the latest developments in information technology, update their knowledge and enhance their professional skills.
He was addressing the opening session of a five-day training workshop at the Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Centre (PASTIC), Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) on Monday, said a press release.
The main objective of the workshop on “Scientific Research Tools” was to build the capacity of young researchers and to enhance their skills in data analysis, bibliography management and preparation of dissertation and research papers through using latest software tools.
He said although recent developments of information technology has revolutionised life, with the passage of time newer tools will emerge.
He appreciated the role of PASTIC in capacity building and facilitation of the researchers in different areas of research which would lead to economic progress and increased defence capability.
Pakistan Science Foundation Chairman Dr Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto hoped that the training will enhance the skills and knowledge of researchers on the latest scientific research tools.
QAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Etzaz Ahmed underlined the importance of need-based training for improvement of the institutional performance to fill the gaps between availability of IT tools and their utility for promoting research culture.
Earlier director general said PASTIC impart training on modern aspects of information handling and management by organising workshops for researchers and professionals for preparing them to meet the challenges of this digital age.
He further added that keeping in view the recent needs of research community, PASTIC is now launching a series of training workshops on use of ICT tools in Research for searching, annotation, manuscript preparation and data analysis for young researchers which not only save time and effort of researchers but also bring quality output in the form of thesis and scientific publications.
