Pakistani peacekeepers valued for their commitment in UN Peacekeeping missions and is the largest UN troop contributor

Pakistan on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to peacekeeping operations of the UN in various conflict zones.
President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday in a meeting with the Under-Secretary General for the United Nation’s Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) Herve Ladsous, paid tribute to Pakistani peacekeepers who had sacrificed their lives for preserving peace around the world.
Ladsous appreciated Pakistan’s contribution to the UN Peacekeeping forces’ pivotal role in the preparation of the Peacekeeping Manual and adoption of the Security Council resolution 2086 on peacekeeping in January 2013 during Pakistan’s Presidency of the Security Council.
The under secretary general stated that Pakistani peacekeepers were valued for their commitment and professionalism and praised the positive role they had played in UN Peacekeeping Missions in Congo, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Darfur, Haiti, Kosovo and Western Sahara.
Pakistan is currently the largest UN troop contributor with 8,264 personnel.
Ladsous is on a three day visit to Pakistan along with a three member delegation that includes Lt General Maqsood Ahmed, who was appointed as Military Advisor to the DPKO in 2013.
Earlier, the delegation held discussions with the senior officials at the ministry of foreign affairs and interior. The positive role of UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP), one of the oldest UN Missions, was also acknowledged.
