ISLAMABAD:
Afghanistan on Saturday called on Pakistan to constitute a joint committee that will effect recommendations of the Joint Economic Commission (JEC) to further economic relations between the two neighbouring countries.

In a meeting between Afghan Ambassador Janan Mosazai and finance minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Saturday, the former briefed the latter on the follow up to the JEC.

He said that there is an independent Election Commission which will ensure transparent and credible elections followed by peaceful transfer of power.

Mosazai said that in order to take economic relations forward and to effect the commitments made during the JEC, there was a need to devise a mechanism for implementing these decisions. He suggested that an implementation committee, consisting of technical officials from relevant ministries of the two countries be formed.

He also expressed desire to have trade exhibitions to promote trade and investment between the brotherly countries.

Assuring Pakistan’s support in holding peaceful elections, Dar said that a state of the art equipment will be installed at the Nishtar Kidney Centre in Jalalabad.
