Lg elections: Sindh to file review petition against SC delimitation ruling
Sindh minister says government will obey court orders but expressed concerns over empowerment of election commission.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) welcomed the SC decision.

The Sindh government may file a review petition against the Supreme Court verdict on delimitation and local government elections, said the province’s advocate-general, Fatah Malik.
“We are preparing a case in light of the judgment,” said Malik. “After the chief minister’s approval, the review petition will be filed.” He was referring to the apex court’s directives to the federal and provincial governments to carry out appropriate amendments to empower the Election Commission of Pakistan. “The empowerment is meant to delegate the delimitation powers to the election commission.”
On the other hand, Sindh parliamentary affairs minister Dr Sikandar Mandhro said the provincial government will obey the court orders but he expressed his concerns over the empowerment of the election commission. “ECP has limited resources. We will have no objection if the provincial election commission monitors this entire process.”
On the appointment of the Sindh IGP in 24 hours, he said: “The apex court should give clear instructions because the matter pertains to the federal government.”
MQM welcomes decision
Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) welcomed the SC decision and said that the verdict has proved the party’s sincerity towards the issue. According to a press statement by the party’s Rabita Committee, the decision is the victory of the people of Sindh along with the law and the Constitution.
The MQM demanded ECP start the delimitation process so the local bodies’ elections can be held.
