Students gathered outside the Peshawar Press Club and shouted slogans against the administration of PCE and Pakistan Engineering Council. They also held placards inscribed with demands for their college to be granted accreditation.
Ahmad Saeed, who was leading the protest, said students from three batches have been deprived of their rights for the past six years as the college has not received official recognition from the Pakistan Engineering Council. “Officials of the council have visited PCE and had given approval for accreditation, but to date nothing concrete has happened,” said Saeed.
“The students of the college are not eligible for government employment and since the college is not accredited, students cannot even enrol in Masters and PhD programmes,” he added.
Saeed that as time goes by, the students keep getting closer and closer to the maximum age limit set for government jobs but cannot apply.
“The silence of the college administration and the engineering council in the matter remains condemnable,” he complained.
