Targeted attack: Tribal elder gunned down

Elder was severely injured and succumbed to his wounds on the way to a hospital, say police.

HANGU: A tribal elder belonging to Kurram Agency was gunned down by unidentified militants in Doaba on Thursday. Doaba police official Khanullah said the incident occurred at around 11:45am in Doaba Bazaar where Ismail Khan was buying household items when two men on a motorcycle opened fire at him. The official said the elder was severely injured and succumbed to his wounds on the way to a hospital, after which police blocked all entry and exit routes of the bazaar and launched a search operation. However, no one was arrested as the militants managed to escape. The official said the tribal elder was living in Tor Warhi area of Hangu as an internally displaced person (IDP) and hailed from Lower Kurram Agency.
