MUZAFFARABAD:

A main artery linking Abbottabad with Muzaffarabad that was closed for all traffic due to massive landslide last week has been opened for light traffic.

The road near Lohar Gali, some 8 kilometres from here, remained closed for heavy vehicles following the rainfall and for last one week.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Public Works Department (PWD) on Monday opened the road for light vehicles while loaded trucks and containers are still not allowed. The trucks are carrying machinery equipment for Neelum-Jehlum Power Project.

“For the last eight days we have been here. Neither we can move back nor do we know how many more days we have to wait,” said a stranded truck driver.

Our food supplies have also run dry, he added.

Landslip has also disturbed daily life of more than 300 families. Constant traffic jams along the road added to their difficulties, said a resident echoing feeling of many present along the road.
