Milk production: Champion buffaloes delight farmers

Hoor, a buffalo owned by Mukhtiyaar Ahmed Hamdani from sub-district Kot Chutta of Dera Ghazi Khan, won a milking contest on Sunday. It produced 17.175 litres in a day.
Haji Ismaeel Khan’s buffalo was second, milking 14.6 litres. Asif Hussain Hamdani, whose buffalo got the third position, said his animal gave 14.17 litres.
As many as ten cows from seven breeds competed in the contest.“It was a day-long competition. We had to milk from them in the morning and evening. But we are very happy with out efforts,” he said.
The buffaloes securing the first and the third prize belong to the same village.
The owner of the winning buffalo also performed a jhoomar on the beat of dhol after the announcement was made. He was awarded a trophy and Rs10,000.
The owner of the buffalo taking the second position received Rs5,000. The owner of the buffalo at the third position was given Rs3,000.
The organisers said they would continue to organise such local events to promote healthcare of livestock.
