PESHAWAR:
Two brothers of former senator from Mohmand Agency, Abdur Rehman, were allegedly killed by the senator’s guards in an exchange of fire in Chamkani on Thursday. The former senator and his son have been arrested.

Rehman is said to have been at home when his brothers Abdul Wadud and Ishaq Khan reportedly attacked his house. They were killed in retaliatory fire by Rehman’s security guards who were armed with Kalashnikovs.

While talking to The Express Tribune, an official from the Chamkani police station confirmed that the brothers were killed by Rehman’s guards. He added that they were severely injured and had succumbed to the injuries before they got to Lady Reading Hospital.

Explaining what happened, the former senator told journalists, that two men attacked his house and were shot at by the guards who mistook them for miscreants.

An FIR was registered against the former senator and his son Imdadullah in the afternoon. The police said that both men had been arrested along with five others, including the driver and cook.

Family ties

Relatives of the senator, however, have another story to tell. They claim that the brothers were involved in a dispute over their inheritance and properties.

According to one relative, the brothers - Abdul Wadud and Ishaq - had gone to Rehman’s house to settle the matter by talking it out. He said that the police was using the word ‘attack’ to protect the accused.

Talking about the brothers, the relative said that Ishaq Khan was the muhtamam of Peshawar’s Derwesh Mosque and a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl nazim in Mohmand Agency, while Abdul Wadud was a zakat chairman in Mohmand Agency. He added that both brothers were known for their exemplary conduct and had a large following among the locals.
