KARACHI: Left-hander Naeemuddin scored an unbeaten ton to help SNGPL crawl to 226 for three against UBL on day one of their President’s Trophy final, being played at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

UBL won the toss and decided to field first on what looked like a batting surface. They were punished for the wrong call as UBL bowlers had to toil hard for wickets and, apart from skipper and off-spinner Atif Maqbool, bowlers failed to trouble the batsmen with SNGPL playing out the 94 overs, scoring 226 at 2.40 runs per over.

Taufeeq Umar, who made a quick fire 40 off 32 with the help of five boundaries, was the first wicket to fall at the score of 64. Next to go was Azhar Ali (12); both batsmen were dismissed by Maqbool.

After the wickets of the two senior players, 32-year-old Naeemuddin started to take control of the situation along with Ali Waqas. The duo grinded out 30.1 overs for their partnership of 53. Waqas got out for 21 off Tariq Haroon.

With the score at 131 for three, skipper Misbahul Haq stepped in and the duo put on an unbeaten stand of 95 to put SNGPL in a strong position

Naeem was not out on 117 off 297 balls with a six and 16 boundaries while Misbah was unbeaten on 42 hitting two sixes and three boundaries in his 110-ball stay.

The defending champions still have three batsmen Khurram Shehzad, Yasir Shah and Adnan Akmal in the dugout. Their aim would be to pile on the runs on day two.
