LAHORE:

Both the security and protocol available to the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly should be equal to that of a federal minister, the interior ministry said in a circular issued on Sunday.

The ministry directed all provincial home departments, police chiefs and heads of other law enforcement agencies to share details regarding security and protocol of opposition leader.

Sources familiar with the matter told The Express Tribune that Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah had requested Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for more security and protocol.

PM Nawaz approved Shah’s request. After approval of the PM, the interior ministry issued a circular in this regard.

According to excerpts of the circular issued by the interior ministry and forwarded to the chief commissioner Islamabad, inspector general of police in Islamabad, all provincial home departments, police chiefs and provincial heads of other LEAs, now the security and protocol of the opposition leader is to be equal to that of a federal minister.
