Agro-business: Italian delegation visits PARC

The role of the Italian government was appreciated for the promotion and development of agriculture sector in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: An Italian delegation, led by Istituto Agronomico per l’oltremare (IAO) Director General (DG) Dr Giovanni Totino held a meeting with Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) Chairman Dr Iftikhar Ahmad and his Olive team Dr Muhammad Munir, NPD (Olive), Dr Nasir Mehmood Cheema, DPD and other scientists of the Federal Project Management Unit Olive at PARC headquarters. The meeting was held to review the performance of the project titled, “Technical assistance and support to line ministries in the agriculture sector with emphasis on olive production - Afghanistan, Nepal and Pakistan”. The main aim of this project is to increase the local production of edible oil by cultivating olive specially to utilise waste lands in Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Fata. Dr Iftikhar Ahmad appreciated the role of the Italian government for the promotion and development of agriculture sector in Pakistan specially efforts in the olive sector.
