Cold blood: Parents arrested for killing two children

The mother says that she could not feed them.

Police arrested a man and his wife on Wednesday for killing their two children in Johar Town. Police said while the man had denied the allegation, the woman had confessed to the killings.

Police said since the man, known only Sunny, was also found to have been in the room when his wife, Bisma Bibi, was killing the children and had apparently not done anything to stop her, he too, was arrested on charge of abetment.

The bodies of the children, eight-month-old boy and two-year-old girl, were sent to a mortuary for post-mortem examination.

An FIR was registered against the two on the complaint of the man’s brother, Abuzar Suleman, who claimed that the couple had killed their children. Police, however, said that they would investigate the matter since only the woman had confessed to killing the children.

She said she killed them because they could not feed them. She said she had not been able to feed her children for three days. She said her husband was addicted to drugs and had been unemployed for over a year. She said she had been selling the gold jewellery that her parents had gifted her at her wedding four years ago. She said he had started a rent-a-motorcycle business, but had later sold all the motorcycles and spent the money on drugs.

Police said that the couple had been sharing the house with the man’s four aunts. Police were told that they heard both Sunny and Bisma Bibi crying at 3am. When their relatives rushed into their house, they saw them sitting next to the two bodies, crying.

Investigation Officer Inspector Imran Yasin told The Express Tribune that Bisma Bibi had strangled the boy and thrown the girl into water and left it there until she died.

Speaking to The Express Tribune later Suleman said that his brother had nothing to do with the murders. He accused his sister-in-law’s family of having a bad repute and her of killing their children. He said his brother had owned some shops and received monthly rent from it.
