Pakistan dispels Afghan apprehensions over Dasu hydel project

Afghanistan eager to provide help, facilitation to realise CASA-1000 project.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday dispelled Afghan apprehensions over the Dasu dam, assuring that the hydro project was not being built on the Kabul River.

In a telephonic conversation with the finance minister, Dar’s Afghan counterpart Dr Omar Zakhilwal raised concerns expressed by the Afghan National Security Council.

Dr Zakhilwal said that he will look into the issue and if Afghanistan is not an upper or lower riparian country on the river on which Dasu Project will be constructed then Afghanistan will have no concern.

Dar assured him that the project was being built on the Indus and hence Afghanistan should have no objection to the project

CASA-1000 project


Afghan finance minister also discussed progress on CASA-1000 power project with Dar.

Dr Zakhilwal shared his Afghanistan’s desire for early completion of the power project and hoped for the success of forthcoming Pakistan-Tajikistan tariff negotiations.

The Afghan minister and said his country is eager to provide its help and facilitation for CASA-1000 Project.

Joint economic commission

The two finance ministers discussed various issues between the two countries and updated each other on progress since Dar’s to Afghanistan from February 22-24.

Both sides concluded with the desire to enhance the economic relations between the two countries.
