Firing on NATO containers in Jamrud leaves 2 dead
Two others were also injured in the attack.
JAMRUD:
Unidentified armed men opened fire on Nato containers in Jamrud, killing two people and injuring two others, Express News reported on Tuesday.
A senior local administration official, Jehangir Azam Wazir, told AFP that "the four containers were on their way to Afghanistan when four gunmen riding two motorbikes opened fire at them in Jamrud, killing two helpers and wounding one driver and one helper."
He said one of the helpers died on the spot while the second one succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Another local administration official confirmed the incident and said the attackers had fled.
No group has claimed responsibility of the attack as yet.
The Nato supply route in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was recently re-opened after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists ended their sit-in in the wake of Peshawar High Court order which termed the blockade illegal. The supply blockade was initiated in November last year in protest against US drone campaign in Pakistan.
Today's attack on Nato containers was not the first time the trucks have come under attack. In December last year, a group of armed men had attacked two containers carrying relief goods for Nato in the Dhadar area of Balochistan. No one was hurt in the attack.
