LANDIKOTAL:
Two security officials were killed and nine others, including two civilians, were injured on Monday when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by unidentified militants exploded at a roadside in Landikotal.
Amjad Shinwari, an official of the Khasadar Force said that a convoy of the Frontier Corps (FC) was headed from Landikotal to Peshawar on the Pak-Afghan Highway. When the FC personnel reached the Sadokhel area at around 8:30 am, the IED planted at the roadside, currently under construction, was detonated.
He said three vehicles, including two FC and one civilian, came under attack, in which two FC officials Salahuddin, a resident of Waziristan, and Javed, a resident of Loye Shalman, were killed on the spot.
Shinwari said FC officials Sher Azam, Ijaz, Saifur Rehman, Mohib, Sanaullah, Israj, Naveed and two unidentified civilians were injured. All were taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Landikotal where three of them were said to be in critical condition.
After the blast, Levies, Khasadar and FC officials cordoned off the spot and conducted a search operation. One man was arrested and moved to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
The Pak-Afghan Highway was closed to traffic and remained so till the filing of this report. An official said all private and government educational institutes in the area were also closed after the incident.
Abid Afridi, a resident of Sadokhel told The Express Tribune that the blast was heard far and wide and created panic among the locals, especially children.
