United nations: FAO supports Vision 2050

The organisation’s representative assured FAO’s support and cooperation towards formulating the ‘Vision 2050’.

ISLAMABAD:
The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC), held a consultative meeting on Monday to prepare a ‘Vision 2050’ in order to meet the agriculture challenges in the country. The meeting was chaired by PARC Chairman Dr Ifthikhar Ahmed, according to a statement issued by the FAO. The organisation’s representative Patrick T Evans assured FAO’s support and cooperation towards formulating the ‘Vision 2050’. The policy, he said, would help improve the efficiency of the government’s investment and stimulate agricultural growth along with creating more jobs and contributing towards poverty alleviation and improving food security. The objective of the meeting was to initiate the process of forecasting future trends and assist the private sector to meet the challenges of tomorrow in the agriculture sector. Participants discussed methods to modernise Pakistan’s agriculture sector and respond to future agriculture demands and constraints.
