KARACHI:

Bomb disposal squad (BDS) officials managed to defuse a bomb placed near the Ziauddin Hospital in Shireen Jinnah Colony on Saturday. The incident occurred a day after a bomb was defused near the Friday Bazaar in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

On Saturday, a three-kilogramme bomb was found from the roadside near Ziauddin Hospital, within the limits of Boat Basin Police Station. "It came into our notice when police personnel, on routine patrol in the area, saw a crowd gathered around a suspicious-looking bag," Clifton division SP Muhammad Nadeem told The Express Tribune. We immediately evacuated the area and called in the BDS team."

Bomb disposal experts later reached the site and managed to defuse the bomb. "It was an improvised explosive device (IED) and contained approximately three kilogrammes of explosives," said a bomb disposal expert, while speaking to The Express Tribune. "The bomb would have been detonated with a remote-controlled device."

Earlier on Friday night, a similar device was found and defused by bomb disposal experts near Friday Bazzar in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The police and BDS teams have been awarded Rs100,000 for successfully locating and defusing the bombs.
