Promotions demand: Sindh teachers’ demonstration continues

The members of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) staged a hunger strike after holding a protest outside Karachi Press Club on Friday to demand promotions and other facilities for college teachers in Sindh.

Several SPLA leaders, including central president Professor Syed Ali Murtaza, secretary general Professor Mohammad Siddique, senior vice-president Karim Ahmed Narejo, SPLA Karachi president Professor Feroz Siddiqui and others, addressed the protesting teachers. They said they will continue to protest until their demands are met.

Despite their continuous protests, no one from the education department was paying heed to their demands, he said, adding that teachers in the Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhuwa and Balochistan were getting promotions but, in Sindh, grade-17 college teachers have been deprived of promotions for the last 14 years.
