The N’s share
Pervaiz Elahi strongly opposes an alliance with Sharif’s PML-N.
LAHORE/ISLAMABAD:
Monday’s meeting took place only days after a similar interaction of a PML-Q delegation with top PML-N leaders in Lahore.
Although the Q league does now not own last week’s meeting, and has insisted that the move was not on the behest of the party’s top leadership, it is believed that the delegation had been given the green light by none other than Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
The PML-N already has the tacit support of many PML-Q MPAs in Punjab that have formed a ‘forward bloc’ within the party.
On the other hand, Pervaiz Elahi, the former chief minister of Punjab, is among those leaders of the fractured PML-Q who strongly oppose an alliance with Sharif’s PML-N, unlike his elder cousin Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, who is said to be ready to talk to the Nawaz-led Muslim League provided that his faction is given some respectable space for coexistence.
