KARACHI:
Noted professionals, society and aspiring female leaders gathered on Wednesday for this year’s Women In Business and Leadership Conference (WIBCON) to celebrate and expedite the emancipation of women in Pakistan.

Organised by the Pakistan Society for Training and Development (PSTD), the event was attended by women and men from across the world. The conference’s aim, according to PSTD, is to encourage women to step into leadership roles and be agents of change in the Pakistani society.

Female professionals from across the corporate world spoke at length of their accomplishments in an attempt to inspire and mentor those attending.

From keynote speaker Roma Balwani, Chief Group Communications Officer of Mahindra Group, to Rashaneh Zafar, Managing Director of Kashf Foundation, and heads and senior managers of various companies, the focus was to enable the next generation of change drivers.

Speakers and panellists at the event shared, along with their personal stories, date and information about the state of women across the world, and the steps being taken to remedy the situation.

PSTD

PSTD is an independent non-profit institution built for the purpose of broadening professional leadership and capacity in Pakistan. Founded in 1966, the body has organised various such events for the improvement and cultivation of professionalism and leadership in Pakistan. WIBCON 2014 is the sixth conference in the WIBCON series, and the biggest so far.

As the conference expands in size and repute, PSTD hopes to leverage it someday as a forum where corporate and social leaders from across the country can meet, coordinate and facilitate efforts by the community.

Judging from the roster of speakers and attendees, they seem to be headed in the right direction.
