Convocation: NUST mulls technology park

Top performers get special awards.

Believing in the power of research and innovation, the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) is working with the government to create first Technology Park of country at its premises.


This was announced by Rector Engineer Mohammad Asghar while addressing at the convocation ceremony held at the main campus on Tuesday.

In the past, countries which were prosperous in textile, agriculture and industries were considered to be powerful. But now the countries which are working on education at higher level are considered as developed.

He said according to national and international experts NUST is the best university and its graduates are serving at higher posts in leading national departments.

Later on, he conferred degrees on the undergraduate students of different faculties.

Those who achieved distinction were awarded President’s Gold Medals, Rector’s Civil Gold Medals and Chancellor’s Silver Medals.

President’s Gold Medal was awarded to Shehryar Shafique (civil engineering), Beenish Imtiaz (environmental engineering), Syed Hammad Ali Burney (mechanical engineering) and Sadia Nasar Mirza (applied business).

Rector’s Gold Medal for the best projects was conferred upon Iqra Chaudhry (civil engineering), Sana Rasool (environmental engineering), Zohaib Rafique (mechanical engineering) and Sania Arif (applied business).

Jamal Ali, Leena Aftab, Haider Ali, and Sania Arif as well as Saba Safdar (both secured second position) received Chancellor’s Silver Medal in the disciplines of civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering and applied biosciences respectively.

Sania Rasool said that getting Rector’s Gold Medal was an honour and her project supervisor had key role in assisting her. “Our project was creating prototype amine based carbon capturing technology and it was the first ever attempt in Pakistan which was successful,” she said.
