Gas leakage: Explosion injures 5 of a family

Inquiry officer says family members were asleep when his wife lit match to light stove which caused explosion

KARACHI: Five members of a family, including three children, were injured in an explosion inside their home in Liaquatabad on Tuesday. Police officials said that the explosion occurred due to a gas leakage. Following the explosion, rescue personnel from various welfare associations reached the site and shifted the victims to the Burns Ward of Civil Hospital, Karachi. The injured were identified as Abdul Salam, his wife Nafisa and three children, Shumaila, 19, three-year-old Shiba and six-year-old Arsalan. The inquiry officer, SI Khursheed, said that the head of the family, Salam, and his children were asleep when his wife lit a match to light the stove, which caused the explosion. “The stove had been left open overnight,” explained the officer. One of the walls of the house was also damaged in the explosion. The officer said that no case was registered.
