Sindh cabinet decides to seal provincial border fearing inflow of IDPs

Sindh cabinet has decided to seal the Sindh border fearing the exodus of internally displaced persons (IDP) in the wake of possible operation in North Wazristan.
According to details, Sindh cabinet has decided on Monday to deploy the security force on its entry and exit points to ensure checking of each individual crossing into the province in the wake of possible military operation in North Waziristan.
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah presided over the meeting.
“Federal government would be approached to fully activate and equip the National Alien Registration Authority (NARA) and evolve an effective strategy to block the illegal SIMs, which were the main source of crime in the city,” the spokesperson for CM House said while referring to meeting.
CM said the heavy influx of the IDPs is expected to enter in Sindh if army decides to take action in North Waziristan. He directed the Sindh Police to plug all the entry and exit points in the province and keep border under strict surveillance.
District police officers and SHO’s of the respective area would be responsible to verify and register the alien if any enter in their respective areas, said CM Sindh.
The additional chief secretary (home) Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah and acting IG Sindh Police Iqbal Mehmood briefed the meeting about the law and order situation in the Karachi and other districts.
It was also decided in the meeting that targeted operation would continue till the elimination of last criminal in the city. The cabinet also recommended federal government for providing latest and well equipped vehicles, latest explosive detecting equipments and other logistic support to Sindh Police to strengthen and increase its capacity.
The meeting was informed that the recruitment of 10,000 cops, 2,000 retired army commandos was in progress, while the procurement of 100 Armored personnel vehicles (APCs) and other bullet proof vehicles, bullet proof helmets, vests and other equipment was also in the process. A package to enhance salary to the police personals working at the sensitive police satiations has also been implemented.
Chief minister said that after raising the annual budget of Sindh police up to Rs42 billion, additional amount of more than Rs5 billion has been released to enable them to purchase latest equipments and vehicles.
The meeting also reviewed the total development budget Rs165 billion of the province.
