KARACHI:

In the sixth broad daylight bank heist of the city this year, a group of robbers looted Rs4.5 million from the Orangi Town branch of Bank Islami on Monday.

At least seven members of a gang of robbers entered the bank at around 12:30pm. They held the staff members and customers hostage at gunpoint and snatched weapons from the two security guards deployed at the bank. The robbers then moved towards the strongroom and looted around Rs4.5 million.

The police investigators while quoting witnesses, said all the robbers clad in shalwar kameez were speaking with each other in Pashto. Officials said the robbery lasted for five minutes.

SHO Tanvir Murad is suspecting that this might be an inside job since this money was present from the day before. “Why was the money still there from yesterday? Why wasn’t this amount sent to the head office?” he pointed out.
